Job description :

The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing at Coventry University is one of the largest in the UK, and is nationally and internationally renowned as a centre of innovation for its teaching, learning and research of computing subject areas. The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is one of three schools within the faculty and has a very successful suite of courses supported by excellent staff, teaching facilities and laboratories. The school is responsible for the development of a thriving portfolio of teaching and research.

The School of Computing Electronics and Mathematics and the new High-Performance Computing Institute is looking for a lecturer or senior lecturer in Data Science or in Applied Mathematics.

The High-Performance Computing Institute aims to provide translational research support in areas of high-performance computing, cyber security, big data, statistics and data science, artificial intelligence to the wider research community, as well as producing high quality research in the fundamental issues surrounding these subjects.

As a secondary responsibility, the HPCI is responsible for supporting the University’s tier 1 international partners in developing research capability. The current position is part funded by the University’s doctoral college and the successful candidate will be expected to fulfil in part their teaching duties through supervision of distance learning PhD students, as well as supporting the school’s transnational education agenda through link-tutor and/or “flying faculty” teaching with our partners internationally, such as Dubai, Muscat, Hong Kong or Malaysia in order to develop courses and materials.
We are interested in expanding our teaching and research in computer science, particularly in the following areas:

  • Algorithms, infrastructure and applications of big data
  • Computational intelligence and machine learning
  • Statistical methods applied to big data problems
  • Mathematical Modelling applied to problems in Engineering

You will actively contribute to research groups or communities of practice internally, through the Faculty Research Centres, and externally, assisting with bids and tenders for external projects or contracts. You will also be disseminating research outputs using a range of media and develop external networks nationally and/or internationally. Significant experience in the supervision is essential, and experience with transnational education and/or quality and approval issues surrounding course design would be helpful.

With a PhD and appropriate professional qualification and/or membership, you will need to demonstrate teaching experience at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes. Experience of working on applied research projects or contracts, supported by evidence of contribution to appropriate outputs or experience of professional practice/consultancy will be required.

As one of Coventry’s biggest employers we will provide an excellent benefits package and a personal and professional development programme that will help you to achieve your aspirations.
