2019 University of Calgary Conference on Postsecondary Learning and Teaching

April 30 – May 1, 2019

2019 University of Calgary Conference on Postsecondary Learning and Teaching.

THEME: Exploring Experiential Learning

April 30 – May 1, 2019
Calgary, Alberta, CANADA

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Submit your proposal by December 13, 2018

The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning invites all members of the academic community – students, faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars to explore experiential learning — and the scholarship, approaches, practices and issues that surround it — in the postsecondary context.

We also encourage potential presenters to volunteer as peer-reviewers for the conference proposal adjudication process. Reviewers can expect to spend two to three hours of their time adjudicating between seven to eight proposals. It is not necessary to present at the conference nor to register as a delegate to volunteer as a reviewer – login or create an account and complete: Profile -> Roles -> Reviewer.

Please contact ti.conference@ucalgary.ca if you would like more information.

AustMS/AMSI Teaching Seminar Series

Date & Time: Tuesday 27 November 2018, 2pm (AEDT – GMT+11)

Speaker: Katherine Seaton (Latrobe)

Title: Integrating integrity

Abstract: Mathematics tasks of the type assigned to undergraduates are overlooked in the academic integrity literature, and in much of the instructional material for students about misconduct. In this talk, I will present an overview of my forthcoming e-book which begins to address this lack of specific and targeted information. In particular, I will discuss what mathematics can apply from the general scholarship, and from areas like computer science which have, by way of contrast, developed a large body of discipline-specific literature. I will then go on to present some of the 26 scenarios provided as on-line or in-class discussion starters in the book, which will be published as an open educational resource by La Trobe University’s e-Bureau early next year.

Educational Developers Caucus (STLHE) Conference 2019

We invite you to participate in our first online Canadian Educational Developers Caucus (EDC) conference: Positive Resilience and the Future of ED(C). The committee has worked to create a novel and inexpensive way for groups to sign up to participate together, to encourage networking. In addition to the Call for Proposals, we are very pleased to announce the opening Keynote Speakers for the Educational Developers Caucus Online Conference.
Appreciative Resilience and Educational Development: Opening Keynote
Tuesday, Feb 19: 12 pm – 1 pm EST
Join Joan McArthur-Blair and Jeanie Cockell for a dynamic web-talk on their recent work in Appreciative Resilience. Educational Developers do powerfully important work inside organizations. They see the innovation on the horizon and translate it for individuals, teams and the entire organization. One of the innovations institutions are calling out for at this time is the practice of resilience as a process to help sustain the work of higher education. Appreciative Resilience takes the power of appreciative inquiry and embeds it into resilience practices as individuals and organizations journey through hope, despair and forgiveness. You will leave our time together with new ideas and ways to practice resilience.
Call for Proposals
Canadian Educational Developers Caucus (EDC) Conference: Positive Resilience and the Future of ED(C)
February 19-22, 2019
We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting proposals for the Educational Developers’ Caucus 2019 Conference: Positive Resilience and the Future of ED(C). The conference is going online in 2019, and will run daily from 12 to 3pm EST between February 19th and 22nd. There will be two types of presentations: concurrent sessions and the EDC Showcase.
As the nature of our work, our administrators, and our commitment to our own development constantly evolves, it is important to develop positive resiliency skills. For this year’s Educational Developers’ Caucus (EDC) annual conference, we ask you to think about how educational developers’ think, interact, enact, and engage with their practice and how EDC can (or should) facilitate this. We also ask you to think about educational development in general, and more specifically how we can support ourselves and others in an increasingly busy and complex world.
More information about the EDC 2019 Conference theme, format, and the complete call for proposals can be found on the EDC Conference website: https://edc-conference.com/home/2019-conference/call-for-proposals/
Deadline: The deadline to submit a proposal for a concurrent session is Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, and the deadline to submit a proposal for an EDC Showcase is Friday, November 30th, 2018.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Celia Popovic at cpopovic@yorku.ca.
Regards,
The 2019 EDC Conference Planning Committee
