Senior Research Associate / Research Associate – Mathematics @ Uni of Bristol, UK

The University of Bristol seeks an outstanding candidate for a Research Associate position tenable immediately until 31/10/18, working with Professor Carl Dettmann in the Institute for Probability, Analysis and Dynamics within the School of Mathematics. The positions are funded by an EPSRC funded collaborative project, “Spatially Embedded Networks” between the Universities of Bristol and Oxford; in total there are two postdocs engaged at each location.

Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Health Infectious Disease Mathematical Modelling @ University of Bristol, UK

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to work within the School of Social and Community Medicine at the University of Bristol.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join a research team based in the School of Social and Community Medicine. The post is available from 1 February 2017 until 30 January 2018 funded through a grant from the US National Institute of Health, and is meant to provide a good opportunity for obtaining research training or experience. The post will develop new infectious disease models on the transmission of HIV amongst female sex workers and other risk groups in Tijuana, Mexico.

You will join a collaborative team of mathematical modellers, epidemiologists, social scientists and health economists interested in the transmission dynamics of blood borne viruses, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other infections. As part of these projects you will be primarily involved in the technical aspect of the modelling, and will collaborate with other modellers, economists and epidemiologists involved in this and other projects.

The School of Mathematics invites applications for one or more Research Fellowships in association with the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research. You will divide your time equally between your own research and the research programme of the Heilbronn Institute.

Research areas of interest include but are not restricted to Number Theory, Algebraic Geometry, Algebra, Combinatorics, Probability, Quantum Information, Computational Statistics and Data Science.  These areas are interpreted broadly: Fellows have previously been appointed with backgrounds in most areas of Pure Mathematics and Statistics, and in several areas of Mathematical/Theoretical Physics.
