Postdoctoral Research Associate, Biotech & Biomolecular Science @ UNSW

An ARC-funded project has commenced at UNSW to understand the molecular evolution of pathogens in terms of their natural history. The postdoctoral research associate will work with A/Prof Mark Tanaka to model pathogen evolution integrating the processes of mutation and within host dynamics with epidemiological dynamics. Our objective is to produce a closer alignment between mechanistic models that incorporate the ecology and epidemiology of microorganisms on one hand and genomic data on the other. We will use our models to analyse the accumulation of drug resistance, patterns of non-synonymous variation throughout the genome, and genetic interactions. The successful candidate will work within the Tanaka research group, and work closely and cooperatively with the research group of A/Prof Ruiting Lan.

Post Doc Research Fellow (Lung Cancer Modelling) @ Cancer Council, Wolloomooloo

This role will involve modelling cancer mortality rates and numbers of cancer deaths in Australia out to 2040 and the impacts of different cancer control strategies on these rates and numbers. The initial project findings will be used to guide the process of policy prioritisation for Cancer Councils to support the efficient and effective use of cancer control programs in the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer at a population level.

Research Fellow, Infectious Diseases Modeller @ JCU, Townsville

You will conduct advanced research in mathematical modelling and related epidemiology of infectious diseases in the context of regional surveillance of emerging infectious diseases.  This will entail both theoretical models and analysis of experimental data from a number of databases.  Having obtained your PhD in a quantitative field you will relish this opportunity to develop collaborative projects with other researchers in the DFAT Partnership Project and contribute to the development, coordination and delivery of teaching programs.

Key to your success will be your ability to conduct advanced research in mathematical modelling and related epidemiology of infectious diseases in the context of regional surveillance of emerging infectious diseases.  You will ideally have training or experience in a quantitative field such as: physics, engineering, applied mathematics, computational biology, clinical epidemiology, health economics, bioinformatics or biostatistics.

Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Health Infectious Disease Mathematical Modelling @ University of Bristol, UK

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to work within the School of Social and Community Medicine at the University of Bristol.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join a research team based in the School of Social and Community Medicine. The post is available from 1 February 2017 until 30 January 2018 funded through a grant from the US National Institute of Health, and is meant to provide a good opportunity for obtaining research training or experience. The post will develop new infectious disease models on the transmission of HIV amongst female sex workers and other risk groups in Tijuana, Mexico.

You will join a collaborative team of mathematical modellers, epidemiologists, social scientists and health economists interested in the transmission dynamics of blood borne viruses, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other infections. As part of these projects you will be primarily involved in the technical aspect of the modelling, and will collaborate with other modellers, economists and epidemiologists involved in this and other projects.
