We would like to congratulate Michael Jennings from the School of Mathematics and Physics at University of Queensland on receiving an Office for Learning and Teaching Award for Teaching Excellence recently.
Michael is an Associate Lecturer in Mathematics, currently completing a Phd in mathematics education, who coordinates a number of first year mathematics subjects and has a research interest in the students’ transition from secondary to university mathematics. His teaching philosophy is based on identifying and then building upon students’ current knowledge and he relates mathematics to everyday contexts through real-life case studies that illustrate the usefulness and beauty of mathematics. Michael uses technology to gather data and then design innovative resources that support diverse student cohorts, including the internationally renowned Get Set feedback system.
Michael has been an active member of the FYiMaths network and has been involved in number of OLT projects in recent years, including GetSet formative feedback system and SmartAss self-testing system, as well as numerous projects at UQ.
